Leafs latest win leaves team with mixed feelings.

One would think that beating the defending cup champs 6-1 would be something to celebrate. However, both the Leafs and Lightning, with a handfull of other so-called "top teams", are struggling badly, and thus this victory leaves more questions than answers.

Is this win reflecting how good the Leafs are or how poor the Lightning are playing? While we dont feel bad for the champs situation, we can sympathize with the level of frustration they are feeling and the lack of reasons to why they are going the way they are.

The single largest difference is that the Lightning GM actually knows what he's doing. He is a very experienced and knowledgable person who has a proven track record, where the Leafs gm is far from being able to even put himself in the same class. The same could be said for a few of the other slumping teams, who also have smart, experienced gms behind the helm.

So, that begs the question, "is the Leafs poor play more a reflection of the GM, than the team?"

I think the recent blockbuster deal the Rangers gm made is part of that answer. The Leafs gm had been in conversation with the medicated GM, who had recently had a few "episodes", that questioned his mental state. If anything, this should have been the chance for the Leafs to make a trade, however, after all was said and done, the 2 gms couldnt find the right mix.

If you cant make a trade work with a gm whos half in the bag on meds, who can you make a trade with? Obviously the Blues found a way. The Leafs gm had this to say about his fellow Rangers GM.

"Our hats go off to him for pulling out that deal, without getting taken advantage of. We were concerned about his state of mind considering his recent actions of late. Its good to see he made a deal that should help his team. We hope to try again in the future. Our lack of completing a deal is mostly due to my own lack of player value in this league. We try to be as polite as possible during this process, but im sure its frustrating for everyone involved when you cant come up with a deal. In the end, our fans suffer the most, since they are the ones who have to watch this team struggle with no changes."

So, what does this gm do? Either he needs to start learning faster, or start taking medication like the Rangers gm did. Perhaps both. It couldnt hurt
