Junior Capitals Best Bruins

The Washington Junior Capitals returned to winning ways on Day 78 in a 4-2 victory over the Boston Junior Bruins. The two points moves Washington to 17-19-3 for the season. As the season approaches the half-way mark, the club is right in the thick of the playoff hunt after a very slow start.

Boston got out to an early lead when Huml scored his sixth goal of the season from Lindstrom and Meszaros at 4:03. After both teams failed to convert power play chances, Washington tied the game during a stretch of four-on-four hockey. Greg Mauldin got the goal from Mikhail Kuleshov and Maxim Orlov at 13:57.

The Bruins regained the lead in the second period on a power play goal from Tarkir at 5:19 of the second period. Kozack and Makela assisted on the tally. The Capitals had two power play opportunities after the goal, but the team could only manage six shots on goal in the period.

Washington turned it on in the final period, and Brett Carson made it 2-2 when he scored from Sean Bergenheim and Orlov on the power play at 3:29. Just under eight minutes later, the Caps took the lead for good on Lance Moynch's goal from Sean Kotary and Kuleshov at 11:19. Another power play chance later in the period gave the Caps a chance to put the game away, and Ivan Baranka did the job when he converted from Patrick O'Sullivan and Carson at 16:00. A late fight between Igor Shadulov and Boston's Jurcina ended in a draw.

Daniel Taylor made 21 saves to earn the win and improve to 9-7-1. Jordan Sigalet stopped 22 shots in the loss for Boston.

The Junior Capitals return to action on Day 80 in Los Angeles.
