Junior Capitals Tie Islanders
Lance Moynch scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Washington Junior Capitals to a 2-2 tie with the New York Junior Islanders on Day 139. The point moved Washington to 28-31-11 and five points out of the final playoff spot in the Wales Conference.
Moynch gave the Caps a great start in the first period when he netted his 17th goal of the season from Sean Bergenheim and Ivan Baranka at 9:27. Washington only had six shots in the period, but the defense kept New York off the board to hold the lead.
After a scoreless middle stanza, the Islanders scored twice in the first half of the third to take the lead. Perez tied the game from Kaip and Lehtonen at 0:12, and Lehtonen made it 2-1 with a power play tally from Guenet and Baranov at 9:58. The Caps would not be denied, however, and Zbynek Novak evened the score from Andrew Joudrey and Moynch at 13:40.
Robert Muller made 31 saves for Washington to move to 3-0-2. Matt Zaba stopped 22 shots for New York and is now 35-24-9.
The Junior Capitals are back in action on Day 140 against the Junior Rangers.
