Darren McLachlan not exercised

The Boston Bruins passed on a press conference and instead, released only a brief statement to announce they would not be exercising their call-up option on left wing Darren McLachlan.

The CLUTCH Hockey Club of Boston, the Bruins, wish Darren McLachlan well in his future endeavors and hockey playing. We have negotiated terms today with representatives of Mr. McLachlan to allow him to explore his options with other franchises.

We appreciate the efforts he put forth during his tenure with the Bruins family. However, we do not feel our current roster make-up and his skills mesh to the point he could contend for a spot with the club.

His fourteen points in last season's effort with the Providence club do not speak to the magnitude of his personality and persistence he put forth. He was a guiding force in the club house, and if not for rules imposed by the league, we would happily welcome him back to Providence. Last year, he developed as a player, but the team does not believe he has the potential to bloom even further. If it is to happen, it will happen in something other than a a Bruins sweater.
