Double J is a B
That's right - Jiri Jakes is the latest Bruin from Providence to get the call to the parent club, the team announced in an early afternoon press conference.
"Double J is going to be joining the Little B's to begin the season, likely playing in direct competition with Rick Kozack for the top spot on the right side," GM Joshua Anderson announced.
The scorer of nineteen goals and twenty-four assists for the wretched Providence club, Jakes finished fifth in scoring for the team. Three of his goals were game winners, tied for second most on the team with potential fellow call-up Andreas Lindstrom.
Anderson continued, "It was not just the numbers we could read on the stats sheets that made this decision easy for us. No, what we saw was him develop as a player, and we believe he has some potential to bloom even further. We want that to happen in a Bruins sweater."
Jakes' contract, like all others in the Boston organization, was not released. However, when talking with WGBH about the contract, he expressed amazement about the amount. "To be making $700,000 a year? I never DREAMED of that as a child!" A signing bonus of $700,000 was also said to be included.
