Flyers acquire Grigorenko
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Igor Grigorenko is now a member of the Philadelphia Flyers, pending league approval.
The Flyers shipped 31 year old playmaker Vaclav Prospal to the Detroit Red Wings in a deal to bring back 24 year old forward Igor Grigorenko. With this deal the Flyers now have only one player on their current roster who is over the age of 30. Prospal has yet to play a game for the Flyers, he was an offseason acquisition from the Devils. In 58 games last season with New Jersey, Prospal finished with 24 points, 10 goals and 14 assists. Grigorenko finished the year after playing 78 games and totalling 58 points, 25 goals and 33 assists on a powerful Red Wings offence.
Philadelphia has also announced that the team will play Grigorenko at center for the year on a line between Marian Cisar and Alexander Steen. The only concern that is brought to the attention of the team general manager is the lack of defencive ability on some young players. This season there will be alot of pressure put on both the goaltending and defenceman to make this season a respectable one. This years Flyers team will be a much faster tempo styled team compared to last years squad. There is alot of young skilled and speedy talent on this team and the management hope that it will benefit in their play.
Philadelphia Flyers management are still looking to move a few players in hopes of bringing in some more young talent for the future. This offseason has been one of change for the Flyers and don't expect it to stop just yet.
