Dry leafs , get Jussi, add Timonen

sometimes its the little things that hurt a team more.

first loss of 3, Henrik Sedin goes down hurt, out for 2 games
Second loss of 3, Ryan Smyth out for a game
3rd loss of the 3, Nabakov needs a rest, the Leafs weak backup in net.

Its hard to crawl up a slippery slope, and thats how things felt to the Leafs squad during their current 3 game losing streak. However , that was no excuse, at least thats how their GM saw it, and sent a small but significant message to the squad in acquiring Defenceman Jussi Timonen from the Pittsburgh Penguins, for hold out dman, Igor Knyazev and JR D,Steffan Kronwall.

In Timonen, the Leafs get that all around young defenceman that they have been looking for since the off season. Losing a similar young Dman, the departure of Igor Knyazev was not a surprise, as he was a hold out. So, in order to balance the deal, the Leafs reluctantly had to agree in the adding of Kronwall to make the deal happen. Kronwall was excited at the chance to be reuinited with this brother Nicklas in Pittsburgh.

Jussi, like the rest of his Penguin team mates have come out of the block on fire, going 4-0-2 so far to start the year. Jussi himself has benifited from his teams hot start.

Jussi Timonen PEN 6 1G 3A 4PTS +6

It could be said that this gives the Leafs one of the best top 6 group in the league, and they are all young, with Gauthier being the oldest at 30. They will only get better in a few seasons which should bode well for the team in the near future. It also takes some pressure in finding backend help, and now they can focus on talks with goaltender Evgeny Nabakov and find out whether he is serious to stay, or wants out. This needs to be addressed at least before next season. Rumors persist he has asked for a trade. Their GM seems content to ride out the season with him however.

Lets see how the upcoming day off, and the new face in the lineup does for their current losing streak.
