Senators Squash Ducks!

The Senators finally put an end to their 3 game winless streak with a convincing victory over the Ducks.

Ottawa game out of the gate flying against the Ducks in the first period of this one. An early goal by the Ducks was quickly answered 19 seconds later when Alexei Smirnov notched his first of the season on a beauty of a pass from Dick Tarnstrom. Later, youngster Petr Sejna gave Ottawa the lead with assists by Smirnov and again, Tarnstrom. That 4th line was clicking for the Sens and the Ducks apparently couldn't find an answer. The Ducks answered back but just over a minute later newly acquired Dan Snyder scored from Gill and Petrasek. It seemed the 3rd and 4th lines were clicking in Ottawa.

The 3rd line stretched the Sens lead to 4-2 midway through the second on a goal from David PEtrasek assisted by rookie Kelly. The Sens went into the dressing room with a 4-3 lead in what was a surprisingly close game.

Goaltender Chris Osgood owned the 3rd period stopping 18 shots to secure the win for the Sens. Selanne added some insurance with under 2 minutes to go on passes from Morrison and Tarnstrom.

GM Schmucky is not pleased with his top line, "we can't depend on our 3rd and 4th lines to provide all our offense. It's nice to know we have the depth to have them help us win games, but our top guys have to produce. Ozzy won us this game in the 3rd and with him on the bench next game with a mild sprain, we will have to hope Selanne and Kovy step up to the plate and provide some offense or we'll be in big trouble.

The Sens are at home again tonight versus the strong Minnesota Wild. The Sens hope to make it two in a row.
