Fisherman Fry Sharks

In a rematch of last year`s Stanley cup finals, the New York Islanders hosted the San Jose Sharks Saturday. The recently acquired Cristobal Huet was between the pipes for San Jose, while David Aebischer was in net for the Isles.

New York got on the board early, when Marian Hossa got his 4th goal of the year just 6 seconds in, when he took the pass from Sakic`s faceoff win, and bolted in untouched to beat Huet glove side. The Sharks bounced back soon, when ex-Isle Denis Arkhipov roofed a rebound over a sprawling Aebishcer to make it 1-1.

The second period saw San Jose take the lead, when Radek Bonk got his first of the year to make it 2-1. However the Islanders roard back, with 3 straight goals in 10 minutes. Blueliners Christian Ehrhoff and Jason Crain both found the twine, and Hossa got his 2nd of the night to make it 4-1 after two periods.

Adam Deadmarsh got the Sharks within 2 goals early in the 3rd period, and San Jose dominated the frame with shots. However Aebischer stopped 13 more shots, and the game ended with a 4-3 for the Islanders.

Ice Chips

Jason Crain`s powerplay goal was his first of the season, and the game winner, and he was all smiles after the game. “There were some reports that I was just a “throw in” as part of the Popovic/Delmore trade, and the only reason I was playing was because my salary meant I couldn`t go to the farm. Some guys hear something like that, they get down and crumble. Not me though. I find it so motivating and I`m happy to contribute. I`m just happy to be playing on a team that has an actual powerplay. That disaster back in Calgary is like watching 5 amputees trying to catch a football.”…The Islanders remain one of 3 undefeated teams (The Coyotes are also 6-0, while the retooled Penguins are 4-0-2)…Next up for the Islanders is a game in Detroit on Sunday evening.
