JR CANES DROP CLOSE CONTEST

Carolina

Goals from Speedy Colin Fraser and power forward Mush Mancari were still not enough for the junior Canes to prevail over the Ottawa Senators.

The Canes were also unsuccessful in their 6 power play tries, a stat that had several onlookers scratching their heads. With the big guns like Corey Perry, Dustin Penner and Jeremy Colliton relatively silent in the contest, some were ready to press the panic button.

Overall, however, the Canes simply were not into this game as much as they should have been. They came out quickly, scored two and then hit the cruise. Ottawa was one of the better clubs last year and you simply cannot rest against them. The Canes learned this quickly.

Of note, Jeremy Swanson left the game in obvious pain. The actual event is unknown as to what happened but it was enough for David Cornacchia to head butt Igor Volkov. Corny served a five minute major for his act.

The Canes have tonight off and it might be a lucky thing that is the case. With a power play struggling and Boutin suffering from what seems to be flu-like symptoms, the Canes will gladly accept this break in the schedule.
