Capitals Edge Penguins

The Washington Capitals snapped a seven game winless run and extended its unbeaten streak to three games on Day 99 in a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The result lifts Washington to 20-28-7.

Cory Sarich gave the home club a perfect start when he scored from Peter Tenkrat at 2:08.

The Penguins answered in the second period to tie the game. Rathje got the goal from Morrow and Sundin at 16:25.

Washington turned up the pressure in the final period, and Todd Warriner made the strong play pay when he netted from Patrick Marleau at 14:17.

JS Giguere made 23 saves to earn the win and improve to 21-16-7. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 14 shots in the loss.

The Capitals visit Pittsburgh on Day 103.
