CANES FIND SABRES NOT SO SHARP IN SHUTOUT VICTORY
CAROLINA
With a game the Carolina franchise had been waiting for from their netminder, the Hurricanes swirled into Buffalo and stomped the Sabres 4-0. In the victory, Rob Zepp, veteran goaltender, made 29 stops and Ryan Getzlaf and Sergei Mozyakin each had 2 points in the much needed win.
With those two points, the Canes have finally put themselves back at 500, a position that the Hurricanes franchise was not expecting to be at the start of the season.
"We felt we had a much better team than this going into the season," said coach Craig Hartsburg. "We loaded up on some high end junior talent to be where we are, but the guys took a while to click. We seem to be on a roll right now after tinkering with the lines a bit and changing our system to fit our players better. The kids here are great and they were more than willing to get this ball rolling again."
The newly assembled line of Nigel Dawes, Brandon Reid and Junior Lessard managed to score another goal. The line has finally sparked something positive from tiny forward Nigel Dawes, a gifted goal scorer, who had slumped all season long previous to the Lessard acquisition.
"I just needed a chance to play some real minutes," said Dawes. "Lessard is a big time player and Reid makes a lot of things easier out there. I just want to stay positionally strong and get faster. All in all, I think I am working my way out of this slump."
With 4 points in the 2 games to showcase his talent, it would seem the Canes are happy as well.
