Junior Capitals Fall to Rangers
The Washington Junior Capitals fell seven points out of the playoffs on Day 140 in a 5-3 loss to the New York Junior Rangers. After the setback, Washington is 28-32-11.
After a scoreless first period that featured a fight between Fabien Laniel and New York's Petiot, the Rangers took the lead early in the second period. Marois got the goal from Henning at 1:33. The Caps tied the game just 1:33 later on Sean Bergenheim's 15th goal of the season from Patrick O'Sullivan and Matt Maglione. New York continued to press and Barraruk netted from Collymore and Redlihs to regain the lead.
Washington came out quickly in the final period, and an early power play goal made it 2-2. Maxim Orlov was the scorer from Cory Urquhart and Maglione at 2:31. The back-and-forth action continued just under five minutes later as Buturlin netted for New York from Murray and Sullivan to make it 3-2. After going ahead, the Rangers took control of the game with a pair of power play goals midway through the period. Murray got the first from Collymore nad Redlihs at 10:20, and Stehlik made it 5-2 from Buturlin and Seydoux at 11:40. Sean Kotary added a late goal for Washington to complete the scoring.
Brad Topping made 18 saves in the loss and fell to 14-23-6. Robert Muller stopped three shots in relief. Terry Denike made 33 saves in the win for New York and improved to 32-21-4.
