Trio of trades, many more options, plot Bruin future

The Boston Bruins, coming off of a successful prospect draft, found themselves in an enviable position of having extra junior-eligible players.

Not wishing to expend the resources to cut any of the junior players, the Bruins instead turned to the rade market.

There, they turned an eye on filling other roster's needs.

GM Joshua Anderson explained the strategy, saying, "The way we decied to play it was to figure who had roster holes they needed to fill. Look- we're fortunate things worked out for us. We made signings we needed to in order to meet the minimums. We then were able to draft solely for talent. That left us with flexibility."

The Bruins sent trade feelers on fourteen offers over the weekend. "It most all cases," Anderson explained, "we asked for a pick at least three seasons out. There was only one exception where we offered, I think, four players for a more recent pick. Our intent is not to steal from anyone - just to get some future draft picks so we have a continuing influx of youth."

The Bruins have completed three deals so far - with Calgary, Chicago, and Dallas. They've received three picks, some cash, and a junior netminder in return. "The goalie, " Anderson explained, "was only because Chicago refused to part with a pick. But we hope to turn him around to someone in need of a goalie pretty quickly."

Another two teams have rejected the Bruins overtures, citing alternative plans to fill the roster issue. A third has counterproposed, but the offer does not meet the Bruins' needs.

Teams with junior roster needs are encourage to contact GM Anderson and see if they can make a suitable arrangement.
