Capitals Fall to Detroit

The Washington Capitals continued its inconsistent ways on Day 21 and dropped a 2-1 decision to the Detroit Red Wings on home ice. Washington is now 4-5-2.

Fata gave the Red Wings the lead midway through the first period with a goal from Komisarek and Goc at 10:59. Washington responded just 3:17 later. Zigmund Palffy got the goal from Todd Warriner and Rob Blake.

After a scoreless second period, the Capitals upped the tempo in the final 20 minutes. With Zvachin in the box for a kicking major, Washington had the upper hand, but a breakdown on the power play led to a shorthanded game-winning goal by Detroit. Murray was the scorer from Williams and Kudroc at 10:03.

Kevin Weekes made 21 saves in the loss after replacing Manny Legace who left the game with an injury. JS Giguere stopped 27 shots for the Red Wings.

The Capitals are off on Day 22 before hosting Ottawa on Day 23.
