IGINLA FEELS NO PRESSURE AFTER GIONTA BREAKOUT
Carolina
After watching a 2 goal performance by former Cane Brian Gionta Wednesday night in his hotel room, newcomer Jaroma Iginla began to start his new story with his new club.
Would the achievements of the player he was essentially dealt straight up for effect his game?
"I think if you spend all your time fussing and stressing over things like that, you will end up spending your life trying to match expectations that were never your own," said Iginal. "I am happy with the things I have achieved in my lifetime and I think this new opportunity is one that is just waiting for me."
Iginla, who tallied two assists in his first game in the Carolina red, has a lot of offensive upside, but his rounded out game is top notch.
Playing on a line with Finnish superstar Olli Jokinen and the talented Canadian Gunner (and former team mate during their team Canada Olympic days), Iginla is hoping to produce both numbers and titles.
"My goal is not to lead the league in scoring. My goal is to win a championship and if that means I need to do the digging, I will. If it means I need to be a better defensive player, I will. I know I get paid to produce offensively though and that aspect of my game will come around. All I can do is work harder than the guys I play against. I made a living doing that so far and I figure it will continue."
Iginla is currently locked to a 4 year deal and the Canes feel that he has the potential to help bring a league title to the club during that stint.
"Tonight is my night to being this journey. One step at a time for me and hopefully everything falls into place."
