Junior Capitals Struck by Lightning

The Tampa Bay Junior Lightning scored the winning goal at 2:02 of overtime to secure a 3-2 victory over the Washington Junior Capitals on Day 5. The loss dropped Washington to 1-2 for the season.

Matt Maglione gave the Junior Caps a great start when he netted from Cory Urquhart and Igor Shadulov on the power play at 14:42.

Washington extended its lead to 2-0 early in the middle stanza, and once again the goal came with the man advantage. Maxim Orlov was the scorer from Sean Bergenheim and Maglione at 6;38. Tampa pulled a goal back through Kanko from Johansson and Gionet at 12:47.

The Junior Lightning completed its comeback early in the final period when Rizk scored from Sulzer and Murphy at 1:12. The Junior Caps fired 12 shots on goal in the third, but none got past the goaltender.

Tampa turned things around in the overtime period, outshooting Washington 6-0 in just 2:02 of the extra session. Cook made the sixth shot count when he converted from Packard and Fried.

Brad Topping stopped 25 shots in the loss and fell to 1-2. Joseph Pearce made 31 saves for Tampa.
