JUNIOR CANES DEFEAT PENS

Carolina

Led by another solid performance between the pipes by Jonathan Boutin, the Carolina Jr Canes put another notch in their belt by taking down the Jr Pens.

"We needed to show up early and take the momentum from them," said Corey Perry, who assisted on the game winning goal. "We felt that was the most important thing for this game. Overall, I think we achieved what we wanted to and we can move on."

The Canes also received a nice two point showing from Lauri Korpikoski, who has started off slower than expected. The talented Finn had a great preseason, but those results have not shown up this season yet. The Canes have moved him and fellow Finn Lauri Tukonen around to try and spark some chemistry, but have been unable to.

"These things take time," said head coach Craig Hartsburg. "Both of them are too good to have a slump last. They are working and really, that is all I care about."

Up front, the Canes again were physical and the big forwards continue to set the tone game in and game out. A game high 5 hits for Mark Mancari was crucial in the physical spark early on. Mancari was also +1 in the contest.

The Canes fly to Chicago to face the Blackhawks tomorrow.
