Junior Capitals Fall in Overtime

Sean Bergenheim and Cory Urquhart scored two points each, but it was all for naught as the Washington Junior Capitals dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Atlanta Junior Thrashers on Day 9.

After a scoreless first period, Maxim Orlov put the Junior Caps ahead late in the second with a power play goal from Bergenheim and Urquhart at 17:02. Atlanta answered just 1:34 later on Janssen's marker from Gajic and Nielsen.

The Thrashers came out quickly in the third period. Blatny made it 2-1 from Gajic at 3:08, before Barrett scored his first of the year from Gamache and Sipotz at 6:50 to extend th lead to two goals. Washington made an immediate push for the comeback, and Andrew Joudrey made it 3-2 with a power play tally from Bergenheim and Matt Maglione at 6:56. Urquhart tied the game from Frantisek Skladany and Jean-Claude Sawyer at 11:49.

The Capitals fired three shots on goal in the extra session, but it was Barrett scoring the winner for Atlanta on the team's only shot of the extra period.

Robert Muller made 25 saves in the loss and fell to 0-1. David Leneveu stopped 31 shots in the win.
