Reeling Rangers in Free Fall

The New York Rangers have plummeted down the standings over the last week as their offence has gone from Ron Jeremy potency to George McFly style wimpiness. The team was near the top of the league in shots for, goals for, had two players in the top 5 in points, and had a strong power play to boot. All that has changed in a short time as the pop gun offence has failed to well...pop. With only 1 win in their last 7 games times are truly getting desperate for the boys in blue.

In a somewhat unusual twist for a team in slump their goaltending has been fairly steady. Mike Dunham sports a 3.17 GAA and a .882 save percentage but this has been inflated by a few blow outs. Over the last stretch he's been solid but his team has put no goals on the board.

To make matters worse young sniper Alexei Ponikarovsky went down with a wrist injury last game and was missed enormously on the attack last night against the Bruins. The Rangers lost their second consecutive 2-1 game and have only scored 4 goals in their last 3 games and 7 in their last 5. The panic button appears to have been pushed my management who are rumoured to be actively shopping Ponikarovsky, Sundin, and Bure. Rumours had one, two, or all three heading to Pittsburgh last week but no deal came to fruition.

"We're very unhappy with the performance of our team thus far," said GM Burns in an interview today. "We will always make changes if we think it will better our team and right now I think our team has to get better."
