Senators Make it 3 Straight Wins
The Ottawa Senators went into Vancouver on Sunday night with relatively low expectations. The team was resting starting goaltender Chris Osgood and Brendan Morrison was sidelined with a broken toe.
However, the Sens backups played incredibly in B.C. on Christmas Day and defeated the Canucks 4-2. Suprisingly, players who have underachieved thus far stepped up to replace the teams leading scorer and did so elegantly. The games 1st star, Michael Ryder, opened the scoring for Ottawa with under 2 minutes to go to send the game into the intermission tied at 1.
With Sejna, Nedved and Snyder all scoring in a 5 minute span to open the second, the Sens were flying and led the game 4-1. The Canucks would never recover as the 3rd was scoreless and the final score was 4-2 Ottawa.
Backup tender Roman Turek stopped 27 of 29 shots in an excellent outing. Ryder had a goal and wo assists and Snyder and Nedved each finished with a goal and an assist.
The Senators will have the day off today as they travel to LA to play the 9-6 Kings who are also on a 3 game win streak. One of these streaks will end on Wednesday night. Goalie Chris Osgood is expected to return to the Ottawa lineup but Brendan Morrison is still day to day with a broken toe.
