Montoya gets first career Shutout
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Al Montoya earned his first career shutout Thursday night as Philly JR defeated Minnesota JR 2-0.
The Flyers organization has been off to a bad start both with their pro team and their junior team. Things are looking up for the junior squad as of late, but the pro team has been in deep trouble with two consecutive games allowing 8 goals against and only scoring 2 goals in both affairs.
The Flyers got a scare when two of their promising young players went down versus Minnesota last game. Alexei Ivanov left the game after being hit from behind by Zbynek Hrdel early in the first and is expected to miss up to 2-3 games. The second scare came at 15:46 of the 2nd period as Wojtek Wolski got a stinger from Jake Riddle who was ejected from the game for charging, Wolski will not miss any action but left game for precautionary reasons.
Al Montoya is off to a great start this far into the season. Playing in 10 games, Montoya has a record of 4-5-0, a goals against of 2.43 and a save percentage of .915. Impressive stats considering the start his team has been off to. He will start his 11th consecutive game as the Philly JR takes on St. Louis JR on Day 25.
