CANES PUT BIG HOPES IN LITTLE 'TENDER
Carolina
Early in the evening on Thursday, the Carolina Hurricanes and the Washington Capitals wrapped up negotiations on a deal that could help the Canes in their quest for the playoffs.
For Carolina, the club acquired the pint sized wonder goalie Manny Legace and two late round draft picks for the newly acquired Godzilla, JS Giguere. The deal will mark the third starting goaltender of the season for the Canes but the hope is their search for "the Man" is over.
"We identified that our club, as a whole, had a mental block with JS in net for one reason or another," said head coach Joel Quenneville. "Personally, I did not have any issue with JS being in the net, but sometimes things just are not the right fit. Manny comes to town as one of the fastest, slickest and most competitive gaolers in the league. We are hopefully his desire to win will translate well here. We need a spark."
Aside from Legace, the deal also gave the Canes 2 more picks, bringing their current total to 9 for the upcoming draft.
"Adding youth is always a good thing."
The Canes ready themselves for the Thrashers this evening. Look for Legace to get his first start, fresh off the plane.
