Flyers deal Youth for Toughness

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired more muscle late Wednesday night as they picked up winger Darcy Tucker and defenceman Kristian Kurdoc.

The Flyers traded youngster Alexander Sutivoikskov, defenceman Mike Stuart and draft picks in return for the duo of Tucker and Kurdoc. The 23 year old Sutivoikskov was expendable since the Flyers are pretty deep down the middle. Mike Stuart played well in his time with the team, but he just didn’t fit into the teams system like they had hoped.

Darcy Tucker will bring a jolt of energy to the Flyers who desperately need another solid two way winger. In 30 games this season Tucker has 20 points, 11 goals and 9 assists with 23 penalty minutes and 54 hits. The 31 year old winger is excited about the new challenges ahead and hopes to lead the team of the future into a good position.

Kristian Kudroc has appeared in 23 games and produced 9 assists with 127 penalty minutes and 50 hits. Kris will help make the Flyers defence tougher and gives the team a solid number 4 or 5 defenceman for the next few seasons.

The Flyers expect Tucker to be the team’s next captain. His leadership and experience will be a solid commodity to this young team. Both Tucker and Kudroc are signed for the next 3 seasons.
