Capitals Go Down in Overtime

Mark Eaton had two assists, but the New Jersey Devils earned a 3-2 overtime victory over the Washington Capitals on Day 57. The loss dropped Washington five points out of the playoffs at 11-17-3.

Peter Tenkrat gave the Capitals a good start when he scored from Cory Stillman and Mark Eaton at 15:57 of the first period.

New Jersey tied the game late in the second period on the power play. While Cory Sarich was in the box serving a major for highsticking, Devereaux converted from Legwand and Huselius.

The Devils scored again early in the third period with the man advantage. This time it was Legwand netting from Laperriere and Volchenkov at 0:20. Washington rallied to tie the game just 3:33 later. Oleg Saprykin scored the goal from Eaton and Todd Warriner at 3:53.

With the game on the line in the extra period, Biron did the job for the Devils from Marchant and Dagenais at 2:25.

JS Giguere made 27 saves in his debut for the Capitals. Mika Noronen stopped 26 shots to earn the win.

Washington is back in action on Day 58 in Carolina.
