Columbus worries about Koivu, add Ricci.
Columbus, OH
Mikko Koivu is on the hot seat...his play has been sub-par and the Jackets coaching staff concerns increase game to game. The Jackets sent Roman Lyashenko to the Flyers for veteran center Mike Ricci, in the hopes of solidifying the center position. Ricci is a cheaper version of Lyashenko and has a more rounded game, not to mention playoff experience. Koivu was looked upon in training camp as a potential playmaker, but Mikko just seems to take bad penalties and isnt working hard enough on defense. Columbus has shuffled lines several times in the hopes of sparking Koivu's production and confidence, but so far to no positive result. Jackets management has looked for trades and will likely continue to pursue the right player to help the offense.
The coaching staff has announced that Oliver Setzinger will move to the third line with Koivu to help pick up some speed and scoring chances. The Jackets have also called up smooth passing centerman Raffaele-Pierre Sannit, and will have scouts on hand to watch his play.
