Panthers Double Up On Sabres 6-3
BUFFALO- The Buffalo Sabres hosted the well rested Florida Panthers last night and kept it close until they ran out of gas in the third period.
Buffalos came out strong and Ales Hemsky scored his first of the season at 4:09. John Leclair made it 2-0 Buffalo at 6:11 when he scored his third of the year.Floridas Kim Johnsson cut the lead to one at 14:42 and Michal Handzus scored his first short handed goal at 18:56 while Ivan Novoseltsev was in the box for elbowing and tying the game at 2 after 20 minutes.
Buffalo outshot the Panthers in the second period 13-7 and was their best period of the game but Loungo was there to make the saves when called apon. Stephan Weiss put the Panthers ahead when he scored his third of the season at 18:29. The Sabres tied it up at 3 just :27 seconds later when Yuri Butsayev scored his third of the year and by the play of these two teams so far the third period was shaping up to be a beaut.
In the third it was obvious which team was rested and which one was tired. The Panthers took over the game and outshot the Sabres 12-4. The Sabres started the period off short handed due to Vasiceks highsticking double minor at 19:45 of the second and Owen Nolan made them pay by scoring his 4th of the year and eventual game winner at 2:17 giving the Panthers the lead and they never looked back. Mike Cirillo scored his second and Yanick Lehoux (3)scored :27 seconds apart at 7:10 and 7:37 to seal the deal and hand the Sabres a 6-3 loss.
Kim Johnsson (Pan) Owen Nolan (PAN) and John LeClair (SAB) were the games three stars.
The Panthers travell to Edmonton to play the Oilers tonight.
