Capitals Topped by Toronto
The Washington Capitals battled for 60 minutes, but it was the Toronto Maple Leafs that came out on top for a 4-3 victory on Day 15. The loss dropped Washington to 3-4-1 for the season.
Toronto jumped out to an early lead on Horcoff's goal from Nittel and Gauthier at 2:01, but the Caps tied the game just 5:20 later. Artem Chubarov was the scorer from Mark Eaton and Oleg Saprykin. The Maple Leafs regained the lead 19 seconds after Chubarov's marker when Sagat netted his first of the year from Gauthier and Forster. Once again Washington fought back to tie the game. This time it was Rob Blake lighting the lamp from Zigmund Palffy and Patrick Marleau at 12:29.
The Leafs took the lead for the third time just nine seconds in the second period. Staal was the scorer, and the goal was unassisted. It took the Caps 16:43 to even the score again. David Vyborny got the goal from Dan Boyle and Bryan Berard.
Toronto took its fourth lead of the game when Forster scored from Sagat at 1:05 of the third period, but this time the home side held on and secured the win.
Manny Legace made 28 saves in the loss and fell to 1-4-1. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 25 shots to earn the win.
The Capitals are back in action on Day 16 in Minnesota.
