Capitals Edge Kings in Overtime

The Washington Capitals returned to the right side of the ledger on Day 16 in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Kings. The victory moves the Capitals to 3-4-1 for the season.

After a scoreless first period that featured little action, the Capitals turned it up in the second. Washington outshot Los Angeles 14-5, but two failed power play opportunities opened the door for the Kings to take the lead. Sure enough, Los Angeles capitalized when it finally got the man advantage. With Artem Chubarov in the box for roughing, Kolnik netted from Cammalleri and Brisebois to make it 1-0.

Washingotn pressed for the equalizer in the final period, and Jonathan Cheechoo finally notched things at 1-1 when he scored an unassisted goal, his first of the season, at 14:24.

The Capitals continued to control the play in the extra period, outshooting the Kings 3-1. Zigmund Palffy made the dominance pay off when he scored from Rob Blake and Anson Carter at 2:13 to claim the two points.

Manny Legace made 17 saves to pickup the win. Martin Biron had 27 stops in the loss.

Washington is off until Day 20 when they visit the Boston Bruins.
